WWWT^TM HotPoint^TM 1000R outdoor mesh routers bring all of the benefits of WWWT's instant mesh networking to outdoor and long range applications. With extended operating ranges and NEMA certified enclosures, these rugged versions of WWWT's HotPoint wireless mesh routers enable mesh networks to operate in outdoor environments and to span great distances for both rural and metro applications. The HotPoint 1000R provides two weatherproof Ethernet ports for provisioning Ethernet instantly without the need for a wired backhaul. Eliminating the wired backhaul enables the installation of outdoor networking equipment - such as weatherized access points, computers, and surveillance cameras - virtually anywhere at a fraction of the time and cost associated with installing wired outdoor solutions.

WWWT mesh networks provide a reliable, flexible, and scalable alternative to standard LAN cabling. Because they form automatically without wires, WWWT mesh networks do not require elaborate site surveys or physical modifications to buildings and landscaping. Outdoor network installation costs will drop dramatically because time-consuming trenching and cable pulling between buildings is no longer needed. Provisioning is also easy and fast because special drivers, setup, interfaces and configurations are not required to connect equipment to a WWWT instant mesh network.

The HotPoint 1000R 2.4 GHz outdoor mesh routers share the same functions and are fully compatible with HotPoint 1000S 2.4 GHz indoor mesh routers. Together these two models provide a complete indoor/outdoor mesh networking solution that is self-forming, self-configuring, and self-healing.

Hardware Description

HotPoint 1000R outdoor mesh routers employ a 200mW radio covering distances up to two miles. This long reach between HotPoint mesh routers enables you to extend your network to areas that are otherwise too distant, expensive, difficult, or environmentally sensitive to wire with LAN cable.

Two weatherproof 10/100 Ethernet connectors are provided for connecting standard Ethernet devices such as computers, access points, surveillance cameras, switches, and sensors. A remote power module, with a 100 foot (30.5 meter) cable, supplies power from an external transformer or optional third party power sources such as solar cells and batteries. The HotPoint 1000R mesh router can supply power to auxiliary network devices such as surveillance cameras and outdoor access points via power over Ethernet. Additionally, the HotPoint 1000R mesh router can receive its power from auxiliary network devices that provide power over Ethernet.

An external 24 inch (61 cm) antenna attaches to the unit via a connector and cable at the top of the HotPoint 1000R enclosure. Antenna and enclosure brackets are included for wall or pole mounting.

Robust Mesh Networking Technology

WWWT's mesh network supports multi-hop, point-to-point and multi-cast routing. HotPoint routers use a patented WWWT mesh routing protocol to manage the unique and dynamic environment of the mesh network. This technology allows HotPoint mesh nodes to find each other and form a mesh network automatically. If a HotPoint node is moved to a different location or is removed completely, the network will automatically heal itself and reroute traffic accordingly.

Easy Network Management

Managing the WWWT Mesh is easy with the included HotPoint Manager software. HotPoint Manager runs on a PC or workstation connected to the mesh and provides real-time views of all your outdoor and indoor mesh connections. It also enables customization of your mesh settings and individual HotPoint nodes.

With HotPoint Manager, you can change the default mesh network ID, IP address, and channel number settings as well as settings for security and power transmission. The software will help you maintain the health of your network and optimize HotPoint node placement and performance.

Powerful Security

WWWT HotPoint mesh networks can be configured for private or public operation with AES encryption in both modes. User data can thus be encrypted end-to-end across the mesh network. WEP encryption may also be enabled to provide an additional layer of security. The network also allows VPNs and any third-party encryption to be transported transparently through the mesh.
